BRING YOUR OWN HORSE ON HOLIDAY TO DEVON

Holwell Farm & Holiday Cottages is the most awesome place to come and enjoy a riding holiday. With the only 5 Star rated accommodation on Dartmoor, even the horses have the same standards to look forward to and that’s before you venture out into the stunning scenery of the area.

Basically, you can ride from any point of the compass from Holwell and not see another soul or hit a road all day. Located between the famous landmarks of Hay Tor, Hound Tor and Widecombe in the Moor, the riding is unsurpassed.

Adjoining the farm is Holwell Lawn; a cross country course owned and managed by the South Devon Pony Club. Please ask for a calendar of events for 2008.

The South Devon Foxhounds also meet in the area regularly and we can arrange hirelings from £60 per day. There is usually a Lawn Meet at Holwell once a year which we can notify you of nearer the date set if you would like to join for the day.

Holwell Farm also breeds Dartmoor Ponies; full pedigree and Heritage ponies. There is always a wide choice to select from if you would ever like to buy one or two. Their temperament is ideal for young children to start riding from and they also make perfect, low maintenance conservation graziers.

There are 12 spacious loose boxes at Holwell with power, water and secure tack room. For turn out there are numerous fields all fenced or walled.

With such an extensive and diverse availability of routes and bridleways you will not suffer from lack of choice. Riding on the open moors is can be enormously enjoyable but also challenging; the terrain around the tors are rocky in places and steep. Gorse and boggy ground can add to the excitement, but if you keep to the paths carved by the free-range stock; wild Dartmoor ponies, sheep and cattle, you will not go far wrong.
