Yesterday we had our very first litter of "not so Wild Boar" from the latest arrivals to Holwell. A "family" of Wild Boar hybrids arrived recently and have made their home in the woods at the farm; safely contained inside a walled enclosure. The sow farrowed down in the undergrowth beneath the wall and next morning there were 7 gorgeous little piglets. A lovely honey colour with stripes running the length of their tiny little bodies. All seem well enough and very friendly and curious. They are bred from an ancient cross of Wild Boar and Tamworth which eventually will produce what has become know as a delicacy of "Iron Age Pork". Watch this space, although at present I have to say they are really too sweet to eat !!
